I just finished On Writing by Stephen King.
There's some excellent stuff in there about being a writer, being broke, tools for writers, addiction, hardship and success.
A great read.

I will be featuring some of my writing, brainstorming, and musings here. You'll see both accepted and rejected pitches as well as pitches that were never submitted. You'll even see an occasional full script, prose piece or random RPG.

I just finished reading Terry Brooks' Imaginary Friends short story. It's based in the world of Running With The Demon but was written some years before the Nest Freemark books, which are effectively prequels to the Shannara series. It's an interesting read because you can see some of the early ideas Terry had about the mythology of the world. there are some things that are contradicted by the later books in the shared universe. It's all pretty interesting from that standpoint.
I'll shortly be reading Paladins of Shannara: Alanon's Quest. It's another short one. Alanon is the hero of the first Shannara series Terry wrote. There are a lot of aspects of the series that echo JRR Tolkien, which many critics blast Terry for, but with the back story Terry build into The First King of Shannara and with this Alanon story I think he's trying to distance the early works from Tolkien as much as he reasonably can. Which is noble, but not really necessary. Almost every novel Terry has released made it to the NY Times Best Seller List...but it shows a dedication to the craft, the character and the fans that he wants to stand as free of Tolkien as possible.
Both of these readings are in preparation for Terry's forthcoming release the Wards of Faerie: The Dark Legacy of Shannara which will be released in August.

I'm listening to William Gibson's "Distrust That Particular Flavor". It's a collection of essays and articles and gives some insight into his mind and into future-casting in general. You can check it out by clicking the link below.
